Dear SWEPA ladies,
Indeed, it has been an engaging first year from 1st July 2013 to June 2014 for me in my journey as President for the year 2013-2015. It seemed like I was riding on a whirlwind that catapulted me to go on this merry-go-round filled with interesting activities and colored with beautiful memories of SWEPA moments.
In taking over the helm, I must say that I am grateful to not only have my own work I love, but great members who allow me to serve as your President. It’s a position that I’m not only thankful for but humbled by, as I meet so many new people each day. Representing you in this capacity has been an amazing experience that’s changed my perspective and my life.
SWEPA is in great standing in the local community, thanks to the good work of Past Presidents who have built up SWEPA’s name. We have a healthy relationship with the state government , Ministries and with other NGOS and there are many invitations from other men & women organizations, from JHEWA, MPWS , other NGOS, to either participate in their events or to join them in organizing events. As such, there are many occasions where the President and also the Committee, get invited to functions and given seats of honour. This is testament to SWEPA being respected as a professional organization.
In our empowerment program, SWEPA has been actively training women to be professional leaders. SWEPA invites speakers and organized training workshops, talks and seminars for our members. This activities inspire, motivate and encourage women to participate in entrepreneurial activities. Besides being a professional leaders, important elements such as teamwork as well as fundraising acts and community works are also strongly encouraged by SWEPA. Last year, SWEPA has raised funds to support Food for the Hungry Malaysia’s project at Kg Lingka Bungan Satu in Kota Marudu. The Installation and Charity Ball 2013 goes by the theme of “Shine Like a Diamond” which is parallel to the organisation’s objective in helping women entrepreneurs and professionals, to shine as bright as a diamond in the economic development of Sabah and beyond.
We are inspired to continue helping the underprivileged groups of Sabah and that is where the Barefoot Solar Project was incorporated as our community project. It is important to spread the awareness to other corporate groups as we strongly believes that all good work begins from inside a organization , because there are still many people in Sabah who live in poverty.
As our new EXCO started our fiscal year in July 2013, I named the theme :To Learn, To Grow, To Lead . I personally see Swepa is a place for all of us to learn from each other, grow in our experiences and lead ourselves and our organizations .There have been many colourful events since July 2013 for SWEPA. I hope some of you have taken the opportunity to learn from each other, grow in your experiences and lead yourselves and your organizations well, just as I have learnt, grown and led this year.
Enjoy each and every moment of life. Every day is a new challenge and opportunity to discover something new.
